The photo above is the floor plan of my classroom. Students will have plenty of space to write quietly. Most of the prewriting and drafting will be done at the students’ desks. Students who are on task and would like to have a quieter place to write will be allowed to take a clipboard and write in the library area on the bean bag chairs.
Conferencing will be done at the “rainbow” table. That table will also be used for small group discussion as needed.
There is a table that will be set up for editing. This table will contain an anchor chart for students to remember what they need to look for when editing. The anchor chart will contain reminders about correct capitalization, punctuation, and spacing.
I have a small table for the students to get into small groups and share their work. The table will also be used for the students to discuss and peer review their work. There is also an “Author’s Chair” in the front of the room for students to use when sharing whole group.
There is a publishing table in the back of the classroom that will be set up with publishing paper and good pencils. Students may also choose to publish their pieces on the computers located in the front of the room.
After the piece is published the student can display their work on the bulletin board near the editing table. The bulletin board next to the “Author’s Chair” will contain the Writer’s Workshop rules.
All areas for writing will have paper, pencils, highlighters and pens for the students to use.
