FEAP 5 Continuous Professional Improvement: The effective educator consistently
a. Designs purposeful professional goals to strengthen the effectiveness of instruction based on students’ needs; For my inquiry, I am concentrating on challenging my focus students, based on their reading comprehension levels. I have completed reviewing many practitioner articles to improve my instructional skills in challenging students. These have helped me come up with strategies that will advance my students. http://korywallace.weebly.com/ede-4942/improving-reading-comprehension-literature-review b. Examines and uses data-informed research to improve instruction and student achievement; I gave my students a pre-assessment to determine what they knew about height and length. I then used that data to help guide my lesson planning process. During the lessons, I continued to collect data and used that to help modify my lessons. For example, after looking over the exit tickets from day 1 of my connected lesson, I realized I forgot to teach the students that when comparing height, the objects need to be at the same starting point. I went back the next day and retaught this concept. http://korywallace.weebly.com/ede-4944-level-iii/connected-lesson-reflection-blog c. Uses a variety of data, independently, and in collaboration with colleagues, to evaluate learning outcomes, adjust planning and continuously improve the effectiveness of the lessons; After I gave my students the pretest, I make a table that contained the names of all the students and each question. I then went through each student test and marked an “x” in the box if that student got the answer wrong. This allowed me to see what the students knew and what I needed to focus on during my lesson. Before making this assessment, I talked with the other kindergarten interns and the CTs and we went over what the students needed to be able to do after the lesson was complete. After my lesson from day 1, I talked with my CT about how things went and what she noticed about my lesson. This helped me make the necessary changes to day 2. http://korywallace.weebly.com/ede-4944-level-iii/connected-lesson-reflection-blog d. Collaborates with the home, school and larger communities to foster communication and to support student learning and continuous improvement; In this internship, I have communicated with parents in many forms. I have written in the student’s planner, notes of encouragement and notes that the student were not following directions. I have also typed and printed up little reminders to go home with the students about donations we have needed for the classroom. I have helped with conference night and had the ability to sit in on the conferences. I have attended Math night at Publix where I could interact with parents and the community. I volunteered at the Spring Fling where I interacted with many parents. I believe that this interaction helps improve student behavior and their willingness to work hard while at school. e. Engages in targeted professional growth opportunities and reflective practices; and I am a member of SCATTER (SunCoast Area Teacher Training & Education Research) which is an honor program in the College of Education. Through this program, I am offered many different workshops that help with my professional growth. Just a few weeks ago, I attended a workshop that targeted behavior in the classroom. It talked about the importance of procedures and routines. I was able to come away with ideas of things to use in my internship and in my future classroom. Picture located a bottom of blog f. Implements knowledge and skills learned in professional development in the teaching and learning process. During our time in internship we have completed different professional development trainings. One of the ones that I have used in my classroom this semester, is creating FACE objectives. The two teachers who did this PD were wonderful and gave us resources to use that helped us create the objectives. I now write the objectives on the board every day. One of the things I learned from this PD is the importance of using the standard to write the objective. I also learned that they need to be put in words the students are going to be able to understand. |
