FEAP 4 Assessment- The effective educator consistently
a. Analyzes and applies data from multiple assessments and measures to diagnose students’ learning needs, informs instruction based on those needs, and drives the learning process;
At the beginning of the lesson I give the students a few problems to solve. While they are solving them, I walk around and observe which students are struggling. The students who are struggling are moved to the back table to work in a small group. At the end of each math lesson, the students are given and Exit Tickets. I use this information to see if I need to reteach the lesson the next day. In the middle of the unit, they are given a mid-chapter checkpoint. This is graded and used to see if there is anything taught in the unit so far that the students did not understand. Observations are done daily to make sure that all the students’ needs are being met as learners. Pictures are the same as FEAP 4C b. Designs and aligns formative and summative assessments that match learning objectives and lead to mastery; During Summer 2016 in our measurement class, we were required to design and align formative and summative assessments that matched the learning objectives and lead to mastery. I created a one page review for the students to do for homework that allowed my CT and myself to see what areas needed to be covered again before the students took the unit test. c. Uses a variety of assessment tools to monitor student progress, achievement and learning gains; Throughout each unit in math, the students are given many formative and summative assessments. I observe them during teaching and make mental notes on which students will need to be pulled for small groups. They are given an Exit Ticket at the end of each lesson that allows me to assess and see if they understood the day’s lesson. In the middle of a unit they are given a mid-chapter review that is graded but also allows us to see where students are at. At the end of each unit the students are given a chapter review. All units end with a Unit test. We then look at the test to see what students struggled with. We use this information to review for the FSA. d. Modifies assessments and testing conditions to accommodate learning styles and varying levels of knowledge; In my final internship, there is an English Language Learner (ELL) student who has been in the country for less than one year. For our last Science test, she was provided with a “word bank” to use on the test. The word bank included words that would be seen on the test in both English and Spanish. In addition to the word bank, she could use her Science book and her Spanish to English dictionary. She was placed at a bigger table and was encouraged to ask questions while taking the test to help her with understanding the questions. e. Shares the importance and outcomes of student assessment data with the student and the student’s parent/caregiver(s); and During Conference Night, I sat down with parents and students to discuss what their grades were and how they were doing overall. We went over some of the assignments that the students had completed and how they affected their overall grade in math. I told the parents where the students were performing with 6 weeks left of the nine weeks. We went over the ways that they could help their child at home. Also, we reviewed the forms of assessment we were going to be using the rest of the 9 weeks to form their final grade. We talked about all the assessments that would be used to determine if the student would be promoted to 5th grade or retained in 4th. For example, in math the teacher uses the results of the FSA test and a portfolio that the student has been creating throughout the year (with all grades) to help determine promotion or retention. Participating in Conferenced Night gave me a great experience with talking and interacting with parents and families. f. Applies technology to organize and integrate assessment information. I made a graph to compare the pre- and post-assessments I gave to my students. This helped show me the growth the students made if any and if any student still did not understand the concept. |
